Have you ever been cross with someone? To feel the need to tell them whats what? well, lucky for you we have the perfect outlet to build your skills in the art of insulting; Oh… Sir! The Insult Simulator.
Developed by Vile Monarch, this retro stylized vocal combat games pits you to take down your opponents pride rather than a health bar. You and your adversary will choose words or phrases from a shared pool, string sentences together and share them with each other, in a hope to hurt and break the others pride. The more rude and specific the insult is to the one another, the more damage points you deal. Each round refreshes the insult pool allowing you to craft the worst insult possible. And if nothing seems to be working, You can have a spot of tea, which replaces two of the spare insults you have available to you.
The games concept is simple, three game modes are available from the start, a PvC mode, a PvP mode, and tournament style PvC matches. You will select from multiple different characters, each with different personalities as well as different weaknesses that can be exploited if discovered. For example, one character might take offense if their sense of style is exploited, while another if their mother is brought into the fray.
All in all, the game itself isn’t very expansive, while delivering amusing interactions between the characters, the pool of insults seems only knee deep, often seeing the same phrases repeat after a while.
The dialog, while well recorded, with a Monty Python stylized tone, seems to have a Microsoft Sam approach when its read back, which can lead away from the effectiveness of the insult, from the audiences perspective.
Oh… Sir! The Insult Simulator is a interesting and different party game that is amusing in concept, funny in small doses but seemingly falls flat in the execution. Art direction and music aside, this game needed to put a little more focus towards the actual gameplay to make it at all interesting past the first fifteen minutes.
